 "La comparsa "
Dedicado a las comparsas de Humberto por la gran poeta Cubana
Ivonne martin

"La Comparsa"
La noche asoma su rostro
a través del ventanal:
de fiesta viene adornada
para invadir la ciudad.

Indiscretas serpentinas,
desde un balcón colonial,
se enredan en las estrellas
que alumbran el bulevar.

El aire está saturado
de cierto rumor sensual:
parece un trueno que anuncia
la cercana tempestad.

Príquiti pi pi pi,
príquiti pi pi pa

Es una extraña culebra
con hambre de humanidad
que va hinchándose de orgullo
frente al Rey del Carnaval.

Farolas a la cabeza
no se cansan de girar;
y va creciendo la cola
de gente tras el compás.

¡La comparsa está en la calle!
¡Yayabo salió a arrollar,
y embrujadas por la conga
todas las penas se van!

Príquiti pi pi pi,
príquiti pi pi pa

Por allá se ve un anciano,
una joven por acá:
no importan raza ni sexo,
ni estado civil, ni edad.

Y va sumándose el negro,
y el blanco quiere gozar
al lado de esa mulata
que se llama Caridad.

Del escote dos caimitos
amenazan con saltar;
la cintura es un desorden,
las caderas, un volcán.

Príquiti pi pi pi,
príquiti pi pi pa

Furor de corneta china,
paroxismo de timbal
y tumbadora que marca
el paso del huracán.

Se va alejando la conga…
apenas se escucha ya
el ritmo de los cencerros
con su risa en espiral.

Así también es la vida,
efervescencia fugaz:
lentejuelas que se pierden
en un breve transitar.

Príquiti pi pi pi,
príquiti pi pi pa

A poetic note from the Artist

Within my canvas so pure
an image begins to form
on one corner the ,rumberas
are preparing for their show
rumberos dance everywhere
on the distance I see drums
I can  sense the bongos near
I  feel the floor trembling  strong
My palette swings to the beat
my new comparsa is born

My hope is to take you back
Back to the heart beat of the African drum,
Back to the pounding noise of  an old cow bell or the rattling sound of a primitive donkeys jaw .
Back to the beat and harmony of  wood sandals tapping against the pavement,

Back to the time where endless colors of confetti and serpentines dropped from the sky
transforming the the streets of my homeland into clouds of colored stars and paper fragments

Back to a  festive stream of movements and emotions  traveling trough the old streets of my Cuba like a wild serpent  spreading rhythm and trapping every soul with the beat of la comparsa.,

Back to my old Cuba.
La Musica esta en su sangre !
